Jaylen Warren has picked up three Big 12 honors through five games as a Cowboy.
Warren was named the league’s Newcomer of the Week on Monday after his performance against Baylor. It’s the second time Warren has won that particular award, also doing so after the Boise State game. He was also the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week after the outing in Boise.
Against Baylor on Saturday, Warren ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns on 36 carries. He also made two receptions for five yards. His Saturday performance brings his season total to 511 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
A Utah State transfer, Warren is the only player in the league with multiple Newcomer of the Week awards, putting him in an early lead to take home the season honor at the end of the year. Other recipients of the award this season are Texas Tech defensive back Reggie Pearson, Kansas State defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah and Texas receiver Xavier Worthy.
After carrying the ball 95 times in the past three weeks, Warren will get a well-deserved week off with OSU having a bye.
It’s the seventh weekly award an OSU player has won this season, not bad considering the Pokes have played only five games.
