The Cowboys could secure their second Top 100 prospect in their 2022 class Wednesday.
Four-star receiver Brenen Thompson announced he will pick a program at 7 p.m. Wednesday among his finalist of Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas A&M. A 5-foot-10, 165-pound speedster, Thompson is the No. 87 player in the 2022 class, according to the 247Sports composite system. OSU already has a commitment secured from receiver Talyn Shettron, the No. 77 player in the class.
Thompson announced his Top 3 in August, and the Cowboys have seemed to be a part of every step of his process. However, signs point to Thompson wearing a different shade of orange, as analysts from 247Sports and Rivals have predicted Thompson ends up a Longhorn. That speculation only grew more when a Texas coach tweeted out that “Speed! Speed! Speed! Coming to DKR soon.”
If Thompson were to pick the Pokes, though, it would be the first time since the the 2007 class that OSU brought in two Top 100 prospects, according to 247Sports. In that 2007 class, Richetti Jones was ranked 46th, and Dez Bryant ranked 48th.
OSU’s 2022 class has 13 commitments in it and ranked 36th nationally and sixth in the Big 12. The class has two true receivers in it in Shettron and Pawhuska’s Mason Gilkey. Bixby standout Braylin Presley could also be a receiver when he gets on campus.
