Oklahoma State landed a major score on the recruiting trail on Monday in the 2023 class as four-star guard prospect Parker Friedrichsen, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard out of Bixby, Oklahoma, announced on Twitter that he has committed to the Cowboys. Friedrichsen’s commitment is the culmination of a long recruitment that began in earnest when OSU offered back last June. It comes on the heels of an official visit to Stillwater earlier this month.
“It was good,” he told Marshall last week recapping his visit. “That’s kind of why you do them, just to spend more time in depth with the staff, get to know them better. I had a really good time.”
OSU beat out a lengthy list of suitors to land his services. OU, Purdue, Iowa, Mizzou and Illinois were among the biggest schools to offer, giving Mike Boynton and his staff a head to head win over the in-state rival Sooners and over former coach Brad Underwood.
“[Mike Boynton] really sat down and showed me how how I was a fit there and how he could use me and how it was a little different this year than other years,” he told Marshall. “We watched film together, and he showed clips of like running shooters off actions and really just having confidence. We just talked about what he was about. Obviously I know him pretty well, but he just wants his players have confidence. I thought that was cool. We sat down and we talked about his past at OSU and how he thinks I could be a great fit for him and he can help me with goals going forward.”
Friedrichsen told Marshall that some film they showed him was of Jeffrey Carroll and Lindy Waters, two similarly sized scoring guards who had success at OSU.
Friedrichsen is the first commitment for OSU in the 2023 class. It comes after the team struggled to find success shooting the ball, which he should be able to help remedy in some capacity early in his career. He averaged nearly 28 points per game for Bixby last season and has already drawn praise last season as a junior as the “best scorer in the state.”
