There are countless paths and scenarios that could decide who will — and will not — play in Arlington for the Big 12 championship game next month and which team will enter the game as the first- and second-place regular-season finishers. But for OSU, the path to punching a ticket is really quite simple: Win on Saturday against Texas Tech or next Saturday against Oklahoma and you’re most likely in.
Seeding scenarios vary, though, and wins or losses determine regular-season finish, so with some moving pieces still out there, now’s a good time to look at those pieces and see how they may fall dependent upon how the final two games play out. All scenarios below are how the Pokes can get in and what their regular-season finish would be.
OSU’s path to Arlington
- Win out = first place finisher in regular-season (would clinch spot in Big 12 title game)
- Lose to Texas Tech, win Bedlam, Baylor wins out = first place finisher in regular-season (would clinch spot in Big 12 title game)
- Win Bedlam; OU loses to Iowa State; Kansas State wins over Texas; Baylor loses to Kansas State = first place finisher in regular-season (would clinch spot in Big 12 title game)
- Lose to Texas Tech, win Bedlam; Baylor takes two losses; OU wins over Iowa State = first place finisher in regular-season (would clinch spot in Big 12 title game)
- Win over Texas Tech and lose to OU; OU beats Iowa State = second-place finisher in regular-season (would clinch spot in Big 12 title game)
- Lose to OU and Texas Tech; OU beats Iowa State; Baylor lose one and wins one; Iowa State beats TCU = second-place finisher in regular-season (would clinch spot in Big 12 title game)
