Oklahoma football: It happened one year ago today…Boom!

July 4, 2021

Other than the continuous cycle of national award watch list that kickoff this time every year, July is the calm before the storm, so to speak, every college and Oklahoma football offseason. With preseason training camps just a month away, you might think this is the wind-down time for college coaching staffs and their families […]

Happy Fourth of July!

Alex Grinch is continuing to grow more trees in his defensive backfield with the addition of Robert Spears-Jennings, an OK Preps product from Broken Arrow. Spears-Jennings may not be a huge name in the state of Oklahoma quite yet, but he fits exactly what Alex Grinch and Roy Manning want. The talented Athlete committed to the Oklahoma Sooners over schools such as Arkansas, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, and several others.

Spears-Jennings plays both wide receiver and defensive back— on all recruiting services, he’s even tabbed as a receiver. However, Alex Grinch is recruiting the Broken Arrow product as a DB because of his frame: 6’2, 195lbs! A DB with a frame that large with ball skills is 100% of what Grinch wants in his defense— one can coach skill, not size and physical frame. He catches the ball with his hands, not his chest, he’s incredibly physical even on the offensive side of the ball, and his burst of speed is always downhill.

Spears-Jennings is now the Sooners’ 10th commit of the 2022 recruiting cycle and is one of the several “fireworks” to pop off in favor of Oklahoma on this Fourth of July. Currently, Robert Spears-Jennings is rated as the No. 160 wide receiver in the country, and the No. 19 player in the state of Oklahoma, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

Oklahoma football: Sooners pick up 4-star O-line commitment

One of the big recruiting announcements the Oklahoma football program was expecting in July came through on Saturday. Four-star offensive lineman Jacob Sexton declared his commitment to play for the Sooners. The 2022 prospect from Deer Creek High School in nearby Edmond, Oklahoma, selected to stay at home over offers from Alabama, Oklahoma State, Texas […]

Oklahoma football would’ve done even better in 12-team Playoff

July 3, 2021

The College Football Playoff format has been in place for seven going on eight years, and has been one of the top four teams in four of those seasons. The Sooners are also the only FBS team to make it into the playoff that many times and not record a win. If you count those […]

BOOM! 2022 OL Jacob Sexton commits to Oklahoma

The local favorite edged Alabama in the race for Jacob Sexton.

Scouts have been eyeing Jacob Sexton at Deer Creek for the last two years, wondering if he’d become a legit OK Preps star— and he hasn’t disappointed. With rumors swirling that Sexton would possibly commit to the Texas Longhorns, the talented offensive lineman put those rumblings to bed as he commit to the University of Oklahoma to stay home and be developed by Bill Bedenbaugh. Sexton chose the Oklahoma Sooners over programs such as Alabama, Texas A&M, Texas, Notre Dame, and several others.

Sexton is currently listed at a massive frame of 6’5, 285lbs, probably one of the more ready-to-go prospects on the OL physically in a short while under Bedenbaugh. Regardless of his opponent, he bears down on the player in front of him with a high motor and a mean streak. Sexton is also a three sport athlete— in addition to football, he’s also a wrestler and competes in the shot put as well as discus. Besides listening to his coaches on the football field, wrestling from a young age helped him understand leverage, keeping pad level low, and finishing the play.

Sexton is now the Sooners’ 9th commit of the 2022 recruiting cycle and is the second offensive lineman that Bedenbaugh was able to secure. Currently, Jacob Sexton is rated as the No. 236 overall player in the country, the No. 24 Offensive Tackle, and the No. 5 player in the state of Oklahoma, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

With Fourth of July being tomorrow, I’d expect plenty more, dare I say, FIREWORKS in the very near future.

Oklahoma softball: Sooners pick up another prime transfer for 2022

The notion of covering year-to-year personnel losses by reloading with top talent as opposed to rebuilding is something the Oklahoma softball program is thriving on right now. That also another way of saying success breeds success, and there is nothing hotter in the college softball world than the recent run of success head coach Patty […]
