The local favorite edged Alabama in the race for Jacob Sexton.

Scouts have been eyeing Jacob Sexton at Deer Creek for the last two years, wondering if he’d become a legit OK Preps star— and he hasn’t disappointed. With rumors swirling that Sexton would possibly commit to the Texas Longhorns, the talented offensive lineman put those rumblings to bed as he commit to the University of Oklahoma to stay home and be developed by Bill Bedenbaugh. Sexton chose the Oklahoma Sooners over programs such as Alabama, Texas A&M, Texas, Notre Dame, and several others.

Sexton is currently listed at a massive frame of 6’5, 285lbs, probably one of the more ready-to-go prospects on the OL physically in a short while under Bedenbaugh. Regardless of his opponent, he bears down on the player in front of him with a high motor and a mean streak. Sexton is also a three sport athlete— in addition to football, he’s also a wrestler and competes in the shot put as well as discus. Besides listening to his coaches on the football field, wrestling from a young age helped him understand leverage, keeping pad level low, and finishing the play.

Sexton is now the Sooners’ 9th commit of the 2022 recruiting cycle and is the second offensive lineman that Bedenbaugh was able to secure. Currently, Jacob Sexton is rated as the No. 236 overall player in the country, the No. 24 Offensive Tackle, and the No. 5 player in the state of Oklahoma, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

With Fourth of July being tomorrow, I’d expect plenty more, dare I say, FIREWORKS in the very near future.

Brito was named to the PAC-12’s All-Freshman and Defensive teams.

Happy Friday, friends and fans!

Patty Gasso’s Oklahoma Sooners have added another dynamite transfer in rising sophomore utility player Alyssa Brito, formerly of the Oregon Ducks.

During the 2021 campaign, Brito started 53 games for UO at shortstop, where she quickly made a name for herself among conference ranks. By season’s end, she recorded 10 home runs and 31 RBI behind a .299 batting average while being named to the All-Pac-12 Freshman and Defensive teams.

Brito joins former North Texas pitcher Hope Trautwein as big-time transfers who have elected to team up with Oklahoma for the coming 2022 season.

Now onto this week’s Friday edition of Hot Links! Portal Moser might be at it again, high praise for the OU DL, and more!

OU Links

  • On Thursday, Spencer Rattler announced that he has partnered with Chris Cabott and Steinberg Sports for NIL representation. I’m proud of the young man for seizing this major opportunity has has in front of him.
  • Porter Moser may be eying another quality transfer in Oral Roberts’ Kevin Obanor. Last season, the 6’8” redshirt senior forward led the Summit League with an average of 9.6 rebounds per contest and was the second-highest scoring Golden Eagle with 18.7 points per game.
  • Many people are expecting this year’s defensive line at OU to be one of the top groups in college football. In fact, Pro Football Focus sees the Sooners as boasting three of the top four linemen in the Big 12. It’s high praise, especially considering this doesn’t even include a monster like Perrion Winfrey. Boomer!
  • Redshirt sophomore CB Woodi Washington impressed and showed flashes of greatness last season, and it looks like he’s ready to become the kind of lockdown corner OU has sought after since the turnover on the defensive staff in 2019. Sooners Wire’s John Williams has more.
  • Oh, and I almost forgot…

Hot Links: OU loses commitment of Shettron, Humphrey excels on white board, and more

Shettron expressed a desire to play with his brother, who does not hold an OU offer.

Happy Hump Day, friends and fans!

On Wednesday morning, Oklahoma Sooners 2022 four-star WR commit Talyn Shettron out of Edmond Santa Fe HS announced his decision to flip his verbal pledge to OU’s in-state Bedlam rival — the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Citing a desire to play college football with his older brother, TE Tabry Shettron, Talyn has now backed off from his verbal to Oklahoma after originally announcing his commitment to the Sooners last October. Since the lesser heralded of the two brothers has not received a scholarship offer to play at OU, the chance to play together at OSU was too good to pass up for the No. 2 overall player in the state.

One can only imagine that Lincoln Riley and his coaching staff will continue stay close to the situation if there’s any chance at all for Talyn Shettron to change his mind and re-commit, but for now, the search for another top-flight pass catcher wages on. Fortunately, Luther Burden — the nation’s No. 1 receiver — remains firm in his commitment.

With this latest development, Oklahoma’s 2022 recruiting class now ranks 10th in the nation according to 247 Sports’ Composite class rankings.

Now onto today’s Hot Links! De’Vion Harmon (now at Oregon) withdraws his name from the draft, Creed Humphrey impresses on the white board, the Djoker continues to roll in Wimbledon and more!
