Oklahoma football: What do TV schedulers have against Sooners?

November 10, 2021

If you are a fan of Oklahoma football you sure as heck don’t want to relive what happened the last two times the Sooners played a football game that kicked off at 11 a.m. I hesitate to bring it up, but the most recent of those two early games was the infamous Kansas game, which […]

Oklahoma basketball: Three takeaways from OU’s season-opening win

It took a while for the Sooners to get rolling, but once they did it resulted in a 77-59 win over Northwestern (Oklahoma) State in the 2021-22 season opener and the first in the Porter Moser era of Oklahoma basketball. Moser, who replaced the retired Lon Kruger after 10 seasons at the helm of Sooner […]

Oklahoma football: Sooners are champions overcoming adversity in Waco

The Oklahoma football program has had its fair share of adversity playing against the Baylor Bears in Waco. Since 2011, Oklahoma is a very modest 3-2 when playing at Baylor. Quarterbacks Robert Griffin III and Bryce Petty led Baylor to victories over the Sooners in back-to-back trips in 2011 and 2013. Following losses at Baylor […]

Oklahoma football: No change for OU in Week 2 CFP rankings

November 9, 2021

Oklahoma football was idle last weekend and largely because of that there was no change in the Sooners No. 8 College Football Playoff ranking. That will change one way or the other a week from now, however, as 9-0 OU, one of just four remaining unbeaten teams in college football, goes head to head on […]

The final quarter stretch of the regular season begins now.

The Oklahoma Sooners (9-0, 6-0) had the week off after the College Football Playoff rankings debuted last Tuesday night, and in the committee’s second installment of the season, OU holds firm at No. 8 in the CFP poll.

Full CFP Top 25 Poll

  1. Georgia Bulldogs

  3. Oregon Ducks
  4. Ohio State Buckeyes
  5. Cincinnati Bearcats
  6. Michigan Wolverines
  7. Michigan State Spartans

  9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
  10. Oklahoma State Cowboys
  11. Texas A&M Aggies
  12. Wake Forest Demon Deacons
  13. Baylor Bears
  14. BYU Cougars
  15. Ole Miss Rebels
  16. NC State Wolfpack
  17. Auburn Tigers
  18. Wisconsin Badgers

  20. Iowa Hawkeyes
  21. Pittsburgh Panthers
  22. San Diego State Aztecs
  23. UTSA Roadrunners
  24. Utah Utes
  25. Arkansas Razorbacks

Notes:

  • Michigan State and Wake Forest each fell from the ranks of the unbeatens on Saturday and as a result the CFP poll on Tuesday night. Still, both the Spartans and the Demon Deacons control their own destinies in the race for the Big Ten and the ACC titles, respectively, but they’ll likely need some outside assistance if they want any hope of competing for a spot in the playoffs.
  • Baylor was unable to take care of business against a TCU team in its first game without the services of Gary Patterson. That loss effectively eliminated any chance the Bears had for crashing the CFP party, but a win against OU this weekend would go a long way toward keeping their hopes for a Big 12 Championship alive.
  • Oklahoma State enters the top 10 of the College Football Playoff rankings for the first time since the 2016 season. Mike Gundy and his 8-1 Cowboys are potentially looking to set up a Bedlam matchup for the ages if both squads from the Sooner State continue to take out the competition before the scheduled soirée on Nov. 27.
  • UTSA finally cracked the committee’s top 25 after moving to 9-0 following a dominant win over UTEP in El Paso. Along with Georgia, Oklahoma and Cincinnati, the Roadrunners are now among the four undefeated teams remaining in the FBS.
