Drake Stoops stays home, picks OU

January 12, 2018

After a record-breaking career at Norman North, standout wide receiver Drake Stoops elected to stay home committed to the Oklahoma Sooners as a preferred walk-on. He chose OU over offers from Air Force, Arkansas State, Memphis, Ohio, Western Kentucky, Youngstown State and Iowa.

Stoops announced his decision via Twitter with the post titled “The Next Chapter.”

Drake is the twin son of retired OU coach Bob Stoops. At Norman North, Stoops became the T-Wolves’ all-time leading receiver with 3,390 receiving yards. He hauled in 200 receptions and grabbed 39 touchdowns.

Stoops had 66 receptions for 1,093 yards and 15 touchdowns this past season, but his breakout year came during the 2016 season. He was a big piece of the puzzle in helping North win twelve games and advance to the state championship where they fell to Union, 57-43. Stoops racked up monster numbers that season. The 5-foot-11 wideout caught 86 passes, gained 1,536 receiving yards and had 20 receiving touchdowns.
