The Cowboys’ spring finale weekend has proven fruitful on the recruiting trail.
Billy Walton, a 2023 edge rusher, committed to Oklahoma State on Tuesday after taking an official visit to Stillwater over the weekend. Walton picked the Pokes over offers from Texas, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Texas Tech, TCU, Arizona, Georgia Tech and others.
Listed at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, Walton is a three-star prospect, listed as the No. 588 player in the 2023 composite rankings. He plays at South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas where he recorded 55 tackles, 21 tackles for loss and 12 sacks for a team that won the Texas 5A Division-II State Championship this past season. As a high school junior, Walton primarily played as a hand-on-the-ground defensive end, but his film also shows him being used as an upright outside linebacker at times.
OSU worked quickly with Walton. The Cowboys offered Feb. 22 after he already had offers from Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and TCU. He visited Texas in early April, at which point a few recruiting analysts started predicting that he would end up in Austin. But after a visit up for OSU’s spring finale, Walton picked OSU.
Walton becomes the sixth commitment in OSU’s 2023 class and the highest-rated among them. He joins JaKobe Sanders (OL), Kam Franklin (DB), Jaedon Foreman (DL), Zane Flores (QB) and Jack Endean (OL).
