Four-Star OL Recruit Names OSU in Top 10 Along with Texas, Alabama and Others

May 2, 2022

OSU offensive line coach Charlie Dickey is leading a high-stakes recruitment process with four-star offensive line talent Ian Reed, and the next phase of that recruitment hit this weekend after he trimmed his list from 28 schools to 10 and named OSU among his finalists.

The Cowboys, though, don’t have an easy path ahead. The other nine schools still in the mix vying for his signature are Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Georgia, Clemson, Tennessee, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Reed is a 6-foot-6, 290-pound offensive tackle prospect from Vandegrift High School in Austin, Texas. He’s rated in the 247Sports Composite as the No. 347 overall player in the 2023 class and the No. 25 player nationally at his position.

OSU showed Reed its love earlier this year by offering him a scholarship just days before Valentines Day when he really broke out as a national recruit. He had just six offers before the 2022 calendar year but has landed nearly two dozen since, with OSU, Texas, USC and Texas A&M all offering him scholarships in a 32-day span earlier this year.

Dickey has already put his fingerprints all over the 2023 recruiting cycle with a six-man commitment class currently comprised of two offensive line recruits (Jack Endean and JaKobe Sanders), but the quest to continue bringing in talent and depth at the position is never-ending. It seems OSU will take a minimum of three, maybe more, offensive line recruits in the 2023 cycle especially after recently losing a transfer commitment from Prince Pines, who was set to arrive on campus later this year. Still, the health of the unit overall remains strong with incoming transfers Jason Brooks, Tyrone Webber and Casey Collier buttressing a talented high school bunch of 2022 signees all set to be on the 2022 roster.
