Now that Oklahoma State can fill it up, OSU brass is taking steps to bring back the rowdy to Gallagher-Iba Arena this fall.
With Oklahoma State athletic venues now back to full capacity, the administration made the decision to up the ante for winter sports, expanding the student section to the floor seats on the west side of the arena. This will put OSU student’s on three sides of the floor from sections 104-112, “to make GIA as loud as possible.”
Of course for this to work, OSU needs students to show up in droves for men’s and women’s basketball and wrestling. But coming off of the limited attendance caused by COVID-19 last year and with some highly anticipated teams calling GIA home — Bryce Thompson will get the welcome Cade Cunningham deserved — the hope is that students won’t need any more incentive to show up and get loud.
OSU athletic director Mike Holder helped announce the decision, in a release from the school.
“The heartbeat of Gallagher-Iba Arena has always been the students. With the growing anticipation for Cowboy Basketball, Cowboy Wrestling and Cowgirl Basketball next season, we have made the decision to return the majority of the GIA floor seats to OSU students and, once again, make GIA the rowdiest arena in America… ,” said Holder.
And students, if you needed any more motivation to turn up and show out, OSU put together this video that would get even us olds’ blood pumping.
For those non-students who were planning on the enjoying the those seats, OSU has you covered.
“We understand this will reduce the number of orange chairbacks available on the floor level,” continued Holder, “so we are adding more comfortable floor seats which will now surround three sides of the arena on the front row, and those seats will be offered at new, more accessible price points.”
Those with season tickets in the 100 levels will be contacted with a time/date to select their new seats this summer.
