Oklahoma State Up to No. 12 in AP Ranking Thanks to Baylor Win, Upset Saturday

October 3, 2021

It took AP voters four weeks to put Oklahoma State in the rankings, but after Week 5 the Cowboys shot up into the Top 15.

Thanks to a 24-14 win over then-21st ranked Baylor, OSU moved from 19 to No. 12 in this week’s AP Top 25. That seven-spot climb was the biggest among teams that were ranked in last week’s poll. The Cowboys debuted in the AP ranking at 19 last week.

OSU also moved up to No. 12 in this week’s Coaches poll.

Here’s a look at the entire ranking.

A handful of ranked teams fell over the week, making room for the Cowboys’ ascent. No. 3 Oregon, No. 8 Arkansas, No. 9 Notre Dame, No. 10 Florida and No. 12 Ole Miss all took Ls on Saturday.

Oklahoma, the only other ranked (and unbeaten) Big 12 team, remained at No. 6 after a 37-31 win at Kansas State. Baylor dropped from 21 out of the ranking after its loss to the Pokes. Texas climbed into Baylor’s vacated spot after a win over TCU. That means that this weekend’s Red River rivalry will be a ranked-on-ranked affair.

Future Big 12ers Cincinnati and BYU both earned victories and moved to 5 and 10, respectively.
