TCU upset No. 12 Baylor last weekend playing in its first game after a public divorce with long-time coach Gary Patterson. However, oddsmakers aren’t convinced the Horned Frogs can go back to back with it.
Early lines from Caesars Sportsbook have OSU favored by 13 points on Saturday over the Horned Frogs, marking the second-largest spread OSU is favored over a conference foe this season behind only Kansas. It’s the seventh game (in 10 total games) the Cowboys enter as favorites.
Against the spread
OSU has covered thrice in five appearances this season as a home favorite according to data from TeamRankings.com. It is 6-0 against the spread in conference games this season 4-2 against the spread as a favorite regardless of venue and 7-2 against the spread combined. Bodes well for OSU’s chances to turn its odds as a double digit favorite into a double digit win.
TCU is 0-2 against the spread this season as an away underdog and 1-3 as an underdog overall. It is 0-2 straight up in road games as an underdog with only one win — a home tilt vs. Baylor last week — coming as an underdog on the season.
Over/under trends
The over/under for the game Saturday is set at 54, so with OSU favored by 13, the implied totals for each team is OSU 33.5 and TCU 20.5. Feels like a big number for OSU’s offense. We’ll see. On the season OSU’s games have hit the over only twice — against both Kansas schools (K-State and KU) — while six of the other games have gone under and the final game (against Tulsa) was a push.
