Less than a month removed from committing to Oklahoma State, Class of 2022 cornerback recruit Ayvonne Jones — a three-star prospect from Southlake Carroll — has decommitted from the program.
Jones announced the news Sunday night, saying he has “decided to move a different direction.”
Jones was one of 10 commitments in OSU’s 2022 class and one of two incoming corners along with Saint Louis product Cameron Epps. He committed to the Cowboys a month ago to the day tomorrow over a previous top 10 that included Kansas State, Arkansas, SMU, Houston, Wisconsin, Texas Tech, Arizona, La. Tech and Colorado. Texas Tech at the time was considered the runner-up.
The commitment from Jones last month came after a visit to OSU for the spring game, and the same week Braylin Presley picked the Pokes. It’s unclear why Jones is going a different direction but OSU should be in fine shape to bounce back from this. They already have Epps in the fold for this cycle and two corners from the same class — Kyron Chambers and Dylahn McKinney — are considering the Pokes. 247Sports’ Cody Nagel earlier this year put a crystal ball in for Chambers-to-OSU.
It also doesn’t appear to affect OSU’s ranking, either, as the Pokes dropped only a few spots to No. 15 in the national recruiting rankings and stayed at No. 3 in the Big 12 rankings at 247Sports.
