One might think that nothing is at stake in the matchup between the unranked Oklahoma Sooners and the perpetually underachieving Texas Longhorns , but that person would be dead wrong! First of all, the collective sanity of each fan base is on the line today, as a loss would send OU fans into an emotional tailspin the likes of which we haven’t seen in quite some time. I suppose the same can’t quite be said for Texas fans, as they’ve grown accustomed to this type of thing, but they would still have one of their bigger meltdowns in recent memory. You’d just hate to see it.
Unless you fall into the category of ‘big wig donor’, you’re likely watching this one from home. No Fletcher’s Corny Dogs. No 10 oz. Dixie Cups of watered-down beer. If Oklahoma would have Ronnie Perkins at its disposal, I’d feel much more confident in this front seven’s ability to disrupt the rhythm of this Texas offense, which would mitigate some of our concerns regarding OU’s atrocious secondary. Alas, the NCAA is garbage and he’s still out in spite of the fact that his appeal was reportedly approved last week.
UT’s receivers are big and physical, which obviously spells trouble for Lilliputian Brendan Radley-Hiles and Tre “Defensive Holding” Brown. I do, however, picture the defense as a whole upping the intensity due in large part to the circumstances surrounding this game. Call me crazy, but I expect fewer missed tackles and an overall defensive effort that is slightly less frustrating than the last two we’ve seen. Having said that, I still have this one hitting the over as it currently stands (72.5).
