Predictions for Oklahoma State’s Week 5 Matchup against Baylor

October 1, 2021

The Cowboys and Bears will face off on Saturday night in a contest with Big 12 title implications. Two unbeatens will step cleat on Lewis Field inside Boone Pickens Stadium, only one will leave it.

The Pokes are fresh off their best offensive outing in the win over Kansas State, and Baylor is already 2-0 in league play after dropping then 14th-ranked Iowa State. Both Baylor and OSU debuted in the AP Top 25 this week.

While the Cowboys looked finally like a potent offense last week (for at least a half), the Bears rank second in scoring offense in the conference, coming in averaging 42.8 per game. OSU’s 31 points against K-State was a season-high. And while the Pokes’ calling card has been its defense, the Bears have been even more stingy, leading the Big 12 by allowing only 15.8 points per game. OSU is sixth in scoring D, allowing 19.8.

The Cowboys are slight home favorites, making the Bears 3.5-point underdogs. It should be a tight one. Here are our predictions.

Marshall Scott

Pick: Oklahoma State 31, Baylor 24

Thoughts: I’m not entirely sure how good OSU is, but I’m definitely not sure how good Baylor is. The Bears’ four wins have a combined record of 4-11 this season. Iowa State is the only team at .500 at 2-2, and the Cyclones outgained the Bears by 197 yards. All Baylor can do is play its schedule, but I think OSU’s defense stifles the Bears’ attack. Meanwhile, I think the Cowboy offense will do enough to get the job done, as it has all season.

Kyle Cox

Pick: Oklahoma State 42, Baylor 35

Thoughts: I think the Cowboys continue where they left off last week offensively. If it had not been for the big first-half lead, I think OSU’s boot would have been a tad bit heavier on the gas in the second half. Give me another big game from OSU’s new Big 3 of Sanders, Warren and Martin. The offense just looks different with Tay Martin on the field.
