The undefeated and 12th-ranked Cowboys head to Austin, Texas on Saturday facing what figures to be their biggest test of the season against a 4-2 Texas Longhorns team that just lost to rival OU in heartbreaking fashion last weekend.
OSU is coming off a bye week, so it should be well-rested and equally well-prepared having the extra time to gear up for the top-25 matchup. So, fresh and hungry, we are expecting OSU to put up a big fight. Below are our predictions for the game.
Marshall Scott
Score prediction: OSU 28, Texas 24
Thoughts: I think Texas is a better, complete team than OSU at this point, but I think this is a bad matchup for the Longhorns. Texas has struggled stopping the run — Jaylen Warren. Texas has struggled against mobile quarterbacks — Spencer Sanders. Texas has thrived in shootouts — Jim Knowles’ defense. Could eat a ton of crow with any of that, but that’s how I feel entering the game.
Kyle Boone
Score prediction: OSU 35, Texas 32
Thoughts: We know — or at least we think we know — that OSU’s defense is going to hold up well in this matchup. It has thus far in five outings. But this Texas offense is the most explosive the unit has faced to date. I’m expecting it to be something of a shootout (by this season’s standards). One would think that favors Texas, but I think the bye week gave OSU a chance to get healthy at receiver and the offense should be prepared enough to come out firing enough points. If they can get in the 30s I think the Pokes escape with a W given how good this defense is playing.
Kyle Cox
Score prediction: Texas 42, OSU 35
Thoughts: I have confidence that Oklahoma State’s defense is good, but I’m not so confident that the Cowboys offense can sustain enough drives, and avoid enough turnovers, to give it a fair shake at locking down the dynamic ‘Horns. Texas has only been held to 31 or below once this season, and the Cowboys have only reached 31 once. One of those would have to give, in my opinion, for the Cowboys to come home from Austin 6-0. This offense is going to have to prove it can be depended upon to win this one.
