Josh Sills became the second Cowboy offensive lineman to appear on a national award’s preseason watch list.
Sills was named on the Outland Trophy’s watch list, an award given to the best interior lineman (offense or defense) in college football. The list included 80 players, seven of which hail from Big 12 teams.
Name | Position | School |
---|---|---|
Dawson Deaton | C | Texas Tech |
Marquis Hayes | G | Oklahoma |
Colin Newell | C | Iowa State |
Tyrese Robinson | G | Oklahoma |
Derek Schweiger | G | Iowa State |
Josh Sills | G | Oklahoma State |
Dante Stills | DT | West Virginia |
Perrion Winfrey | DT | Oklahoma |
Listed at 6-foot-6, 330 pounds, Sills transferred to Oklahoma State from West Virginia ahead of last season and is taking advantage of an extra year of eligibility with the Pokes.
Injuries decimated the Cowboys’ offensive line in 2020, but Sills was able to stay healthy and be a constant up front. He was a First Team All-Big 12 player after starting six games at left guard, one at left tackle and four at right tackle.
Another Day, Another List for Rodriguez
If there is a defensive award that a linebacker can win in 2021, Malcolm Rodriguez is probably on its watch list.
The Nagurski Award, given to the nation’s defensive player of the year, put out its watch list of 90 on Tuesday, and it included Rodriguez. Rodriguez is also on the Butkus watch list and the Bednarik watch list.
Rodriguez is one of 12 Big 12 players on the Nagurski’s list and one of 29 linebackers.
He has led the Cowboys in tackles the past two seasons and has 279 total tackles in his career. Rodriguez started his college career as a safety before moving up to play linebacker. At Big 12 Media Days earlier this month, Rodriguez said he weighs 235 pounds.
