Thomas Dziagwa never played for Travis Ford, but the connection the two made during Dziagwa’s recruitment process has opened a door for him to start his coaching career.
Dziagwa has accepted a graduate assistant offer under Travis Ford at Saint Louis, his high school program announced Sunday. Ford recruited Dziagwa to Stillwater, but Ford was let go entering Dziagwa’s freshman season. So, Brad Underwood and Mike Boynton coached Dziagwa as a Cowboy.
During his four years at Oklahoma State, Dziagwa netted 251 3-pointers, the fourth-most in program history. He hit 105 as a junior in 2018-19, the third-most in a season in program history. He was a career 41.1% 3-point shooter. For refence only Cade Cunningham (62-for-155, 40%) and Isaac Likekele (8-for-18, 44%) shot at least 40% from 3 for OSU this past season.
Dziagwa played professional ball in Lithuania this past season. With Dzukija, he played in 10 games where he averaged 2.4 points and 7.3 minutes a contest.
Ford has had a nice pipeline of former OSU players as GAs since he took over the Saint Louis program in 2016. Dziagwa joins the likes of Ford Stuen and Phil Forte as former Cowboys on the Billiken’s staff.
Before his tragic passing this year, Stuen worked his way up to a full-time assistant at Saint Louis. After two seasons as a graduate assistant at Saint Louis, Forte moved to become an assistant coach at Sam Houston State and now UT-Rio Grande Valley.
