Demarco Murray leaves one of his first major imprint on the recruiting trail.

While scrolling Twitter on a Sunday afternoon, some may have noticed this:

It is indeed the notion that Coach DeMarco Murray delivered on Oklahoma’s running back recruit, Gavin Sawchuk. The talented running back was a visitor at the star studded recruiting event in Norman — the ChampU BBQ. Sawchuk has been on Lincoln Riley’s radar for two years now and the Oklahoma Sooners have finally been able to secure the commitment of the elite athlete. Sawchuk was also considering several other institutions such as Notre Dame, Ohio State, Alabama, USC, and many more.

Sawchuk currently stands at a sturdy 5’11, 185lb frame and comes with an already-established reputation as a commit to the HS All-American Bowl and the Polynesian Bowl. The Sooners have not had a running back quite like Sawchuk in a while, and that’s saying something, of course. His field awareness and vision for running lanes is impeccable, and he also has ELITE top-end speed. Suggesting Sawchuk is a “quick-twitch” athlete does not do him justice— the man has cuts for days. He could use some coaching on being patient between the tackles, but he excels in off tackle scenarios… which is the bread and butter of Bill Bedenbaugh’s vaunted G-T Counter.

Sawchuk is now the Sooners’ 9th commit of the 2022 recruiting cycle and is one piece of the two-headed monster that Riley has recruited with Raleek Brown already committed. Currently, Gavin Sawchuk is rated as the No. 43 overall player in the country, the No. 2 RB, and the No. 1 player from the state of Colorado according to 247Sports Composite rankings. Skill position players know that they will be successful if they go to The University of Oklahoma and Lincoln Riley is ensuring he wants players that don’t just compete at the collegiate level, but to also getting athletes on campus that will eventually play on Sundays.
