Here’s where you can get your fresh pair of Sooners Nike kicks for the 2021 season.

It’s that time of year, y’all! As the Oklahoma Sooners enter the intriguing portion of their schedule, Nike has released its yearly college football shoe collection, and OU is represented once again.

Nike’s annual Oklahoma Sooners-themed shoe has dropped!

And it’s available in a new style, as well. Check it out here!

For me, I look forward to the release of these shoes every year as one of the landmark moments leading up to the most exciting stages of the college football season. Buying a pair ensures that I’m looking fresh by the time the season is in full swing, and there’s no better way to rub a big fat L in the face of your Texas and OSU friends than by throwing some quality footwear up on their Ottoman.

Also, Jalen Hurts was fantastic in Philadelphia’s win.

Happy Monday, friends and fans!

The Oklahoma Sooners’ Big 12 opener against West Virginia is officially set to kick off Saturday, Sept. 25 at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC.

In 2020, OU and WVU were unable to play due to a series of COVID-19 related complications that ultimately led to the contest’s cancellation. Since joining the Big 12 in 2012, the Mountaineers have yet to defeat Oklahoma in eight tries.

Now onto this week’s Monday edition of Hot Links! K1 had himself a day, Clay Helton is out, K-State’s veteran QB receives positive news and more!

OU Links

  • Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray went off in his 2021 NFL season opener on Sunday, racking up 309 total yards and five total touchdowns in a 38-13 road win over the Tennessee Titans.
  • The Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts also had himself a fine outing in a season opening, 32-6 roach victory over the Atlanta Falcons. The former OU QB completed 27 of 35 passes for 264 yards and three scores.
  • Baker Mayfield balled out as well for the Cleveland Browns in a 33-29 losing effort to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. The 2017 Heisman Trophy winner did not record a touchdown, but did throw for 321 yards on 21 of 28 completions.
  • Through a half of work, Spencer Rattler graded out with one of the top individual QB performances in college football during Week Two, according to PFF.
  • No surprise here. Junior EDGE LB Nik Bonitto is still doing his thing. His abilities should come in handy even more so now that the Sooners’ schedule is about to start heating up.

Around the Sports World

  • On Monday, USC Trojans Athletics Director Mike Bohn announced the dismissal of head football coach Clay Helton, effective immediately. Honestly, this move was a long time coming.

OU rises to No. 3 in AP Poll

All things considered, this looks about right so far.

Entering Week Three of the 2021 college football season, the Oklahoma Sooners have climbed up one spot to No. 3 in the AP Top 25 Poll after thoroughly dismantling the Western Carolina Catamounts, 76-0. Up next, OU should be in for a fun one against a classic and storied rival — the Nebraska Cornhuskers (2-1).

Full AP Poll below:

  1. Alabama
  2. Georgia
  3. Oklahoma
  4. Oregon
  5. Iowa
  6. Clemson
  7. Texas A&M
  8. Cincinnati
  9. Ohio State
  10. Penn State
  11. Florida
  12. Notre Dame
  13. UCLA
  14. Iowa State
  15. Virginia Tech
  16. Coastal Carolina
  17. Ole Miss
  18. Wisconsin
  19. Arizona State
  20. Arkansas
  21. North Carolina
  22. Auburn
  23. BYU
  24. Miami
  25. Michigan

News and Notes:

  • The Oregon Ducks rose eight spots after upsetting the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus — without the services of star DE Kayvon Thibodeaux. Meanwhile, OSU dropped six places and faces a ton of questions about its porous defense in back-to-back outings.
  • The Iowa Hawkeyes proved why they’re big brother to Iowa State’s little brother in a sound, country butt-whupping in Ames. Matt Campbell, for all the success he’s had at ISU, has yet to crack the code on how to defeat the premier program in the state.
  • Welcome back, Texas. Against the Arkansas Razorbacks, the burnt orange boys we all know and adore looked like a team that is still far from contending for anything nationally. In Steve Sarkisian’s first road game as UT’s head coach, nothing was working on either side of the ball, and that 19-point beatdown was actually worse than the 40-21 final score indicated. The Longhorns have dropped from No. 15 to out of the poll.
  • If Clay Helton’s days at USC weren’t numbered already, they definitely are now. How much longer will the Trojans accept mediocrity? After getting run out of the Coliseum against Stanford late last night, I can’t see their patience lasting much longer.
  • The BYU Cougars had themselves a heck of a week. First, the program was formally invited to join the Big 12 Conference. Then they went on to defeat their hated in-state rival — the Utah Utes. Now, they’re 2-0 and back inside the top 25.

Oklahoma Sooners Football: OU blasts Western Carolina, 76-0

September 11, 2021
NCAA Football: Western Carolina at Oklahoma
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Sooners jumped out to a 45-0 halftime lead over their FCS foe before emptying the bench in the second half.

A week after a sleepy win in their opening game of the season, the Oklahoma Sooners played sharp football from start to finish in a 76-0 win over the Western Carolina Catamounts.

The Sooners scored on all seven of their possessions in the first half, six of which ended in touchdowns. Kicker Gabe Brkic booted his fourth field goal of 50-plus yards for the season on OU’s second drive of the game. The Sooners punted once all night.

OU outgained the Catamounts in total yardage for the game by a margin of 624 to 178. The Sooners allowed 2.8 yards per play on defense and took the ball away from WCU three times.

Star quarterback Spencer Rattler completed 20-of-26 pass attempts for 243 yards and five touchdowns in the first half for the Sooners before sitting out the final two quarters. He added 29 yards on four rushes. Touted freshman QB Caleb Williams ran the show for most of the second half, which included a fourth quarter limited to 12 minutes.

Thirteen different OU players caught passes on Saturday, led by four catches for dynamic rookie Mario Williams and junior Jadon Haselwood. The Sooners pounded out 7.3 yards per rush for the game, highlighted by 74 yards on nine carries for Tennessee transfer Eric Gray. Caleb Williams also turned heads with a 59-yard scamper in the third quarter.

Defensive standouts for OU included first-year inside linebacker Danny Stutsman, who compiled eight tackles in the game. He also exited the game in the fourth quarter with an apparent arm injury.

The Sooners will now gear up for their final non-conference game of the season with the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sept. 18 in Norman. OU’s old-school rival beat the Buffalo Bulls Saturday to run their record to 2-1 on the year.

While fans usually like to look for takeaways following an individual game, the hope is that there are zero takeaways from this one. We’re looking for fewer penalties and no injuries. That’s it. If a “storyline” comes from this game, it will probably be negative, and I’d strongly prefer to enter Nebraska week with some positive energy. I guess I’d like to see Spencer Rattler step into his throws a bit more. If he’s being tentative against Western Carolina —which, by the way, is probably the worst FCS squad OU has faced in quite some time — I’ll be a little worried.

Anyway, if you’re tailgating today, stay in the shade. It’s gonna be a hot one. Honor Tom Herman’s memory and drink plenty of water.

Also, make sure to be in your seats early, because we’re getting a flyover.
