No. 3 Oklahoma State defeated No. 16 Texas for the fourth time in the last three weeks, and that didn’t sit too well with Longhorns head coach Mike White. He gave one Horn Up.
The Cowgirls advanced to the Big 12 Tournament title game on Friday thanks to a 6-1 win over the Longhorns.
Three Cowgirls logged multiple hits led by Chyenne Factor’s two runs batted in. Chelsea Alexander and Miranda Elish each sent a Cowgirl across home, plate as well.
The Cowgirls took a 1-0 lead in the first thanks to an obstruction call on UT catcher Mary Iakopo when Alexander slid for the score.
There were three reviews in the first two innings and enough of them went in OSU’s favor for UT head coach Mike White to demonstrate his distaste.
White was ejected for apparently voicing his opinion to the umpires and then followed it up with a modified Horns Up gesture.
White has since released an apology to all involved via Twitter, and OSU head coach Kenny Gajewski followed it up with his own thoughts on the matter.
“If I was Mike White, I would be pissed,” Gajewski said. “But the umpires got it right.”
Back to softball.
The Longhorns were eliminated from the conference tournament with just one run coming thanks to Mia Scott’s fourth-inning home run, the only goner of the game. Meanwhile the Cowgirls scored two in the first, two in the fourth and then a pair more in the sixth before punching their ticket to a Saturday Big 12 Championship matchup with No. 1 OU.
Morgan Day moved to 10-4 on the season, pitching a complete game and allowing just six hits, one run and striking out one. Perhaps most importantly, she didn’t give Texas anything for free. Day didn’t issue a walk or hit a Texas batter.
This win came just 21 days after the Cowgirls completed the regular season sweep over Texas in Stillwater. OSU moves on to face OU in the Big 12 title game at 2 p.m. Saturday. It will be just seven days since the Sooners completed their own regular season sweep of the Cowgirls.
